Last July, the book titled 25 Years of Private Equity in Italy, written by Matteo Cirla, was released in bookstores. Among the various professionals interviewed is Ignazio Castiglioni, CEO of HAT SGR.
How has private equity changed over the last 25 years? What have been, and what will be, the challenges for the private capital market? Operators, investors, and institutions provide different, yet all useful, answers to paint a comprehensive picture of the Italian market. The continuously evolving economic scenarios, geopolitical changes, and unexpected shocks have accelerated the transformation of the Italian industry and, consequently, of private capital operators, allowing them to adapt to the new context without losing sight of their primary goal: sustainable growth benefiting the real economy. Through the reconstruction of the sector’s evolution with numbers, stories, and analyses, we can trace not only the history of private equity but also of Italian capitalism.
Matteo Cirla has been Senior Partner & CEO of IGI Private Equity since 2010 and has been involved in private equity since 2003, investing in small and medium-sized Italian companies. Previously, he gained six years of experience in Investment Banking, holding various roles of increasing responsibility in London and Milan. He began his professional career in 1996 at Arthur Andersen in Milan. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Pavia and earned a Master’s in Corporate Finance from SDA Bocconi.
